Responsibilities

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Nortel/Avaya Cabling Technician to join our team at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting cabling systems, supporting Nortel digital and analog phone systems, and ensuring reliable connectivity for airport tenants. This is an on-site role requiring hands-on technical expertise in a dynamic airport environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, terminate, test, and maintain copper and fiber cabling infrastructure throughout IAD Airport.
  • Perform cross-connects and troubleshoot Nortel digital and analog phones; Avaya experience is a plus.
  • Execute MAC (Moves, Adds, Changes) operations for end-user devices and cabling systems.
  • Patch fiber circuits, shoot light, and troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues to ensure optimal service to airport tenants.
  • Perform fiber cleaning, extension, and comprehensive troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, update circuit records, and revise Excel-based tracking spreadsheets.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, responding promptly to service requests and minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with other airport technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders to coordinate cabling projects and repairs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling systems.
    • Hands-on experience with Nortel digital phones; familiarity with Avaya systems is preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of cross-connecting and troubleshooting Nortel digital and analog telephony infrastructure.
    • Experience with fiber patching, light testing, and resolving fiber circuit issues.
    • Ability to read, update, and maintain Excel spreadsheets for documentation and inventory tracking.
    • Demonstrated experience performing MAC operations efficiently.
    • Expertise in cleaning, extending, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards in an airport environment.
    • Must have current driver's license and a clean driving record.

Work Environment:

  • On-site position at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
  • Must be able to walk long distances within the airport, access confined spaces, and occasionally work at heights.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate after-hours or emergency work as required.
